7 Ways To Motivate Yourself When You're Feeling Depressed

When you are feeling depressed and nothing seems to work, there are ways to motivate yourself and get back up on your feet again. Here are 7 tips to motivate yourself when you feel like staying in bed all day long

1) Remind yourself how great life is

Life is beautiful, and you have to remind yourself of that when you’re feeling down. Sometimes, all it takes is a change in perspective to see things in a different light. Other times, it takes a bit more effort to get out of the funk you’re in. But no matter how depressed you might be feeling, there are ways to motivate yourself and get back on track. Here are seven tips on how you can do just that:

1. Talk to someone who will understand and offer support

2. Get active and go for a walk or run – endorphins will help lift your mood

3. Help someone else – volunteering or even just lending a listening ear can make you feel good about yourself 4. Find some happiness in something simple like a favorite song or movie 5. Do one thing at a time 6. Keep an open mind 7. Focus on what you have instead of what you don't

2) Set yourself little goals

When you’re feeling depressed, it can be hard to summon the energy to do anything. But if you set yourself small goals, and break them down into manageable steps, you might find it easier to get moving. Here are seven ideas to get you started:

1. Get out of bed and take a shower.

2. Eat breakfast, even if it’s just a bowl of cereal or a piece of fruit.

3. Call a friend or family member, or reach out to a support group.

4. Go for a walk, even if it’s just around the block.

5. Do some simple stretches or yoga poses.

6. Write down your thoughts in a journal.

7. Be kind to yourself)

Start by getting out of bed and taking a shower. It doesn't matter how bad you feel, this is a necessary step towards making any change in your life. Once you're up and showered go ahead and eat something, even if it's just cereal or an apple (and don't forget about water). The next step is to make that phone call! Whether it's speaking with someone close to you like friends or family members or reaching out to people who have been there before like counselors from help lines; connecting with someone is an important step on the way back up again.

3) Learn to say no

There are ways to motivate yourself when you can barely move from your bed. You don’t have to wallow in self-pity for the rest of your life because there are things you can do about it now. Here are seven tips on how you can motivate yourself when you’re too depressed to move:

1. Change your perspective

2. Set small goals

3. Get moving

4. Connect with loved ones

5. Help someone else

6. Do something that makes you happy

7. Seek professional help . Yes, this is the last one but it’s also the most important one. We all need some help and advice every once in a while and sometimes we just need a little push to get back up again.

4) Spend time with friends

Depression can make you feel like you're all alone in the world, but spending time with friends can help remind you that you're not. Friends can provide a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and a helping hand when you need it. They can also offer words of encouragement and hope when you're feeling down. So if you're feeling depressed, reach out to your friends and let them know what's going on. Spending time with them will help lift your spirits and make you feel better. The key is how you deal with the low moments and all that comes with it. If you’re dealing with depression, these are just temporary moments. They will pass.:)

Find someone who really cares about you: One of the hardest things about being depressed is that sometimes you feel like no one understands exactly how much pain you're in. It can be hard to even talk about your feelings, let alone listen to someone else talk about theirs—especially if they seem trivial or frivolous compared to yours. But at some point in their lives, even those closest to us have felt exactly as we do now. If possible, find someone who really knows and cares about you—someone who won't just nod their head or say I understand before changing the subject.

5) Exercise

2. Get moving – Even if you don’t feel like it, getting some exercise can help boost your mood and give you more energy. Try doing gentle exercises at home or take a walk outside.

3. Do something nice for someone else – Thinking about other people will make you happy! Think of something that would make them happy, like cooking them their favorite meal or giving them a gift certificate to their favorite store.

7) Give yourself a treat

Getting out of bed and starting your day can be hard when you’re feeling down, but one way to help motivate yourself is by giving yourself a treat. It doesn’t have to be anything big or expensive, just something that will make you feel good. Maybe it’s buying yourself a coffee on the way to work, or taking a walk in the park during your lunch break.
